    Stoke City Football Club was founded in 1863 making it the second oldest football club in the world, after Notts County. The club was one of the twelve original founding members of the Football League.

    The club was originally called Stoke Football Club until 1925 and was based in the area of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire.
    The club played at the Victoria Ground from 1878 until 1997 when they moved to the larger Britannia Stadium which has a capacity for over 28,000 people.

    Stoke City FC's nickname is 'the Potters' which relates to the area's historic links with the industry of pottery-making.

    Stoke City's biggest success came in the form of winning the League Cup in 1972.

    The club currently resides in the Championship division and finished in 13th position in the table for the 2005/06 season. Their current manager is Tony Pulis who rejoined Stoke City in 2006. He was manager of the club from 2002-05 but left for a spell at Plymouth Argyle.
