The word Glasgow means "Dear Green Place" in Gaelic and, despite its reputation as an industrial city, Glasgow does indeed look very green from the air because of its many parks.
People from Glasgow are usually addressed as Glaswegians. According to census reports the total population of this region is said to be 688,420.
