I Have Heard That Many Religious Holidays Coincide With Old Pagan Holidays, Why Is That?

Today is Easter in Christian Religion, and Passover in Hebrew, I understand that pagans also celebrated at many Holidays at similar times of the year. Are there similarities in the dates of certain Holidays, and what is the significance of that.

During the height of the Roman Empire is was convenient for minority Christians to camouflage their holy days ("holiday" = holy day) in the times of major celebrations, at least that is a main theory for the placement of Christmas (Christ's Mass) at about the same time as the celebration of the birth of Mithras (incidentally, another virgin birth).

Easter is historically tied to a date similar to Passover, but the methods of calculation differ slightly.

It's generally believed that some Christian celebrations were piggy-backed on traditional astrological key points or regional observances.  All Saints Day may have been established as November 1 to relate to Samhain in such fashion, with an overlap of observances.

I always believed it was a pope of the catholic church or the first Caesar who accepted Christianity, who purposely coincided the christian holy days on pagan celebration days in order to eliminate the pagan worship.

Constantine was both Roman Emperor and head of the Church when he declared Sunday to be the weekly day-of-rest for Christians (rather than the traditional Saturday/Sabbath) in 321

It is true that various religious occasions coincide with one another specially christianism and paganism. The reason behind it is that Christianity was evolved and developed in roman empire and the roman rulers were afraid and scared of its popularity. That's why they tried to regain control over their empire by submerging the teachings and practices of two religions so that their christian people wont stand against them.
