Which Comic Strip Offering Parodied Enid Blyton?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

"The Comic Strip Presents…" had two major runs in the 1980s and 90s. Its main stars, who also provided much of the material, were Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders, Rik Mayall, Adrian Edmondson and Robbie Coltrane. The show had a variety of storylines, but the first, and by far the best known were the two "Famous Five" parodies "Five Go Mad in Dorset" in 1982, and its sequel "five Go Mad on Mescalin." These episodes made fun of Enid Blyton's wholesome tales of four children  who go off on adventures accompanied by their dog, Timmy. In the comic strip version, boyish George (played by Dawn French in enormous shorts) has to told to leave the dog alone when cries of "Ooh Timmy, you're so licky!" are heard coming from her tent at night. Dick (Rik Mayall) shows signs of becoming a flower child; and Uncle Quentin calmly outs himself as "a screaming homosexual." (for which the children promptly have him arrested.) The two shows became classics, and are still occasionally repeated.
