If I Only Worked At A Job For Six Months, Am I Eligible For Unemployment Since It Went Out Of Business?

I started to work in April. Today, 10/24/07, I was told to go home, because we are no longer open for business. We were only told last week that we may be closing soon and had no time to look elsewhere before they decided to shut down early. I've only been at the job about six months and didn't know if I was eligible for unemployment.

Well if you have left your job and have no job for more than a month then you are eligible for a unemployment benefit and can apply for unemployment benefits. You can check this website to get all information about unemployment benefits.

Each state has their own criteria when it comes to umemployment compensation. As a general "rule of thumb," yes, you should be able to collect unemployment even if your employer has gone out of Bs. Companies have to pay into this fund for circumstances like this.

Please see the web site for the state that you reside in & search for the Department of Labor for that state.

      Good luck!
