pH is the abbreviated form of potential of Hydrogen or the power of Hydrogen. It is a measure of the acidity or basicity/ alkalinity of a material when that thing is dissolved in water. It is equal to the negative logarithm of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution. A pH value of 7 represents neutrality. Values less than 7 are acidic, and values greater than 7 are basic or alkaline. The pH can be actually determined in a very accurate manner only by using a PH meter.
Thus it is a logarithmic measure of hydrogen ions. It was defined initially by a Danish bio-chemist by the name of Søren Peter Lauritz Sørensen in the year 1909. A pH test is conducted for various purposes like to determine the suitability of the water in our place for fish. It is also used in wine brewery to determine its acidity and its extent and several other chemical processes.

If the Guest is referring to pH of acid or base then the abbreviation pH is referred to as hydrogen potential. The pH scale is 7 to -7, with a ttl range of 14 units with 0 used to indicate a completely neutral pH. Water (H2O) has a pH of 0 and is referred to as a universal solvent in part because of water's pH.
