If the medicine you are taking is keeping you awake at night, it is probably not the correct dosage or the correct medicine for you.

I too have thyroid problems. Mine was inherited from my father. Lucky me. I had hyper thyroid graves disease. for the longest time they had me on levothyroxine which is a generic form of synthroid. After fighting with the doctors about all my problems and they thinking I am looney I switched doctors and they finally put me on pure Synthroid. I take 150 mg now for over a year. My systems are finally getting back to normal. See if this helps.

        Hi lelabro!

I'm sorry I'm a little late with this, but I just saw your post today!

I am a woman and am also hypothyroid -- I had my thyroid removed 5 years ago.

Up until June 2007 I was on .075 mcg of Synthroid 6 days a week (I got palpitations if I took it all 7 days and couldn't sleep), doc said instead of messing with the dose it would be easier to adjust the number of days, which worked great for me!   This June I switched over to the Levoxyl, still at .075 mcg. 6 days a week. I feel pretty good but have not had my blood tested since May.  Over these past 5 years I have generally felt better within 2 to 3 weeks of changing doses, not months.

I suggest that you find an endo you feel comfortable with.  Start with referrals from your primary care and then take the time to make some calls.  It's ALWAYS a good idea to talk to the girls in the office -try to call later in the day, maybe around 4, when the day is usually winding down, make friends and then ask your "stupid" questions like -- is the doctor nice?  Does the doctor really listen? How is doctor's bedside manner? When you go to that all-important first appointment, go with your gut feeling because it won't get any better!  If you're comfortable, stay, and if you're not, don't ever go back.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes!

Thyroid disorder for 28 years-been thru it all.  From your symptoms I would say your medication needs to be adjusted.  Ask your doctor to run a thyroid panel for these results.  I have this testing every six months and my medication has been changed several times. Yes, it does sometimes take several months to adjust the medication.
