Payouts are basically bets in sports such as horse racing and other games in which gambling and placing bets is involved. There are here ways in which people place bets. They are betting to win, betting to place and betting to show.

In the United Kingdom, if there are seven or less than seven horses running the race, the horses that come in the first and second position, namely the winner and the runner-up, would be considered the winning bets by most of the bookmakers. Bookmakers are also popularly known as bookies.

When there are eight or more than eight horses running the race, the betters pay for the first three positions, namely that of the winner and the first two runners-up. When there are sixteen or more than sixteen horses running the race, the betters pay for the first four positions, namely that of the winner and the first three runners-up.
