Can A Dog Who Has The Parvo Shot Still Get Parvo Virus?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Absolutely! Nothing is 100% guarantee and if it's a young pup they require many sets on a particular schedule in the hopes of hitting the window of opportunity so that one worked. They can be started at six weeks which is usually a parvo vaccine. After that it's every 3 to 4 weeks until 4 or 5 months depending. Rabies is done anywhere from 3 to 6 months the first time depending on the area and if they need a health certificate to travel across state lines it is required if they are three months or older. Some breeds are more prone to parvo and tend to carry naturally higher levels like Rott's, Doby's and Pit's though they aren't the only ones. There are also a few breeds that seem to have a higher immunity. Survivors can be a danger to young pups. So while nothing is a guarantee your puppy is still likely to catch parvo if exposed even after a et or two because they may not have been effective at the time they were given so it's very important to do your shots as your veterinarian recommends and at the appropriate times and not to take them out where other dogs are or may have been until they are done with their puppy shots.
