Jawing is a continuous tense of the verb 'jaw. This word jaw has its origin in Old French and stems from the word joue. Joue means cheek. The Middle English adapted it as 'jawe' or 'jowe'. Jaw as a verb has a slang use. When someone talks vociferously, he is said to be jawing. 'Jaw' also means to jabber. A person, who is jawing, is said to be scolding or using abusive language. Jaw could also mean 'to scold'. Here, the verb makes use of an object (grammar). For example: yesterday, Jean was jawing John.
