Who Produced George And Mildred?

Answer Question

British Sitcom George and Mildred was based around the lives of George and Mildred Roper who were played by Brian Murphy and Yootha Joyce.

The series was produced in the 1970s by Thames Television, and also saw a number of spin offs and other connected productions, including a 1980 film version that was produced by Hammer Film Studios, one of Thames' parent companies.

The series was itself a spin-off of another successful sitcom called Man About The House, also made by Thames, whilst in the USA, the show was adapted into a series called The Ropers.

There was even a stage version for a short time.

The film version brought the series to an end in 1980 as actress Yootha Joyce died before the film was released.  There had been plans for a sixth and final series of the show to be recorded in late 1980, but this was never possible although Thames did start plans for a further spin off to see how George would cope as a widower.  These plans never came to reality.
