Where Are Blink-182 From?

Answer Question

Blink-182 are (or rather were - the band has now split) from San Diego, California. They formed in the northern San Diego suburb of Poway. The band first formed when Tom Delonge (guitar and vocals) was transferred to another school after being expelled from Poway High School.

Delonge met Mark Hoppus, with whom he became good friends. The two formed a band (first entitled 'Duck Tape, which later became 'Blink'), and decided to go in search of a drummer. They hired Scott Raynor and released a demo tape in 1993 entitled 'Flyswatter'. The band had their first show at a bar, but were thrown off stage when their tickets refused to sell and no one came to see them.

Another demo tape entitled 'Buddha' was released, this time with more copies being produced. The tape was a succes and led to the band recording their first album 'Cheshire Cat'. The band (now called 'Blink-182' instead of just 'Blink'), moved to Enchinitas, California to record 'Dude Ranch'.

In 1999, Blink-182 (now with new band member Travis Barker), recorded 'Enema of the State', which sold 7.7 million copies worldwide. The band went on to have further success, before announcing their split in 2006.
