It is Against The Law, to sell a puppy before its 8 weeks old at the youngest. With large breed puppies, it's ok to sell them at 8 weeks old. With small breeds like Chihuahua Puppies, it's better to wait until the puppies are 12 weeks old. They should never be taken away from their mom and siblings sooner than that. This is a very important time, where the puppies learn certain behaviors from the mother and from their siblings, that will give them a much better temperament later in life.

It is important that the pups be with their mother until at least 8 weeks though most 'reputable' and responsible breeder's keep the pups until at least 10 to 12 weeks of age for many reasons. Aside from health issues they learn things from the dam and littermates that we can not teach and leaving too early results in behavioral problems that can not be corrected later on because the foundation was never there. Among other things they learn the meaning of no from their dam (we can only teach the word, the actual meaning has to come from her), pack placement allowing us to become alpha or head, and bite inhibition. We can not teach those things so that time is EXTREMELY important to the pups and new family's and how things go in the long run.
