In Software Terminology What Is A Query?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A query is a question that a user will put to the database. Once the query has been raised, it will run through the various objects in which the data has been stored. Usually data will be stored in tables. Software programmers are constantly thinking of ways which will make answering a query that much more faster without compromising on the accuracy of the information.

The solution to this is joining tables that contain different types of information. A query can be directed to only those tables that contain the relevant information. Usually one query will contain multiple criteria, e.g. a product produced in Asia, priced above U.S. $ 30 and that has had sales of U.S. $ 10 million so far. When databases originated, a query would go through all the tables before coming to the right answer. This has changed over the years. Programmers hope to move to a situation where only one table will be queried, so that results are lightening fast.
