Cut 1' from the 3' side. This will allow you to cover 8'X2' with a 1'X8' piece and one more cut. Cut the 1'x8' in half giving you 2-1'x4' pieces to cover the 4'x2' part left and nothing left over

I would treat it as a trick question, and would assume 12 feet to be the depth of the hole, and 2 feet to be its opening. Or something similar where either it has to do something with one figure being the depth of the hole OR the fact that it is a hole and may have a round opening. But in no case can it be done if you consider the mouth of the hole to be a rectangle of 12 x 2 foot. Remember we have to cut the wood into TWO pieces only.
Maybe ally03 you could reproduce the exact question here, because in the topic you say cover the Hole, while in the description you said Area.
