Can A Tenant Be Locked Out For Non Payment Of Rent? There Have Been No Eviction Process Started. But Landlord Threatened To Lock Out. 2 Months Behind In Rate Because Checks Were Returned For Insufficient Funds.

Eviction process have not been started. Have ot received any written notices. Landlord threatened to lock out and call police. Rent is 5 months past due of which on 2 occasions checks were returned for insufficient funds and 3 payments on credit card were not approved. Can the landlord call the police and lock out because of the checks and credit cards. Can the landlord just lock out without going through the eviction process?

You need to talk to the landlord/tenant board as soon as you can! This is a tough one! It's rare that a landlord would let anyone stay as long as he has. But what makes it easier for me to say this, is that he let you stay, and so, he has to go to the courthouse and file the paperwork. Make sure you talk to the board, o.k. Hope this helps, good luck.
