How Does The Area Formula For A Rectangle Work?

Answer Question

    It usually works pretty well.
    _____
    The area formula for a rectangle is
      area = length*width

    It means that you find the area of a rectangle by multiplying the length dimension of the rectangle by the width dimension of the rectangle. If the rectangle length is 3 meters and the width is 2 meters, you multiply (3 m)*(2 m) and the result will be 6 meters squared, which is written 6 m2. (If you like, you can pretend you don't know that m stands for meters, and just treat it as a variable. The result is the same.)
