Anxiety is extremely common and it affects almost everybody at some stage in their lives. It is perfectly normal to feel anxious in certain circumstances, such as while public speaking or while partaking in group activities. So, if you are just nervous in those kinds of situations it is best not to worry too much. However, anxiety does have the potential to become more severe as time goes on, so the best thing that you can do is to keep an eye on the problem to see if it does get worse.
Another thing to consider is how bad your anxiety actually is at the moment. Some people get sweaty palms or go bright red, while others simply just feel anxious on the inside. Does it feel like the anxiety is taking over your life or is it just a little frustrating? Most people have at least mild anxiety which is easily controlled, while others have a more severe reaction which means that they are afraid to leave the house. It is worth noting whether there is anything that has happened recently to create this anxiety such as a marriage or relationship break-up? It is possible that anxiety just develops out of nowhere but often the cause is something that has happened that has caused you to become more insecure or unsure about yourself.
If it really is causing you concern it is worth making an appointment with your GP and talking things through with them. They can tell you ways in which to relax and control the anxiety or they could recommend that you see a counsellor. While counsellors do have a certain stigma attached to them, they can and do really help a lot of people.
