As the name suggests, a page printer produces a full page of output at a time. On office networks, the most common type of page printer is the network laser printer. Typically those printers are bigger versions of personal laser printers with several additional paper trays. Network laser printers work much faster than their personal counterparts, producing output at a rate of anywhere from 12 to 40 ppm. Many of the high-end models can collate and staple as well. A typical 24 ppm office printer is designed to handle workloads of up to 150,000 pages of output per month. Page printer for midrange and mainframe computer systems can print up a few hundred pages of output per minute such printers may cost $100,000 or even more. An organization that produces several hundred thousand or more pages of output per month may find one of these machines an extremely cost-effective alternative.

Page printers offer an advantage over line printers. in their ability to output digital images of forms and letterheads. They can even print on both sides of the paper. Thus, page printers can offer considerable savings over line printers, which require human intervention to switch paper an printing elements when a change in output dictates a new form or format.
