Can You Get Unemployment If Your Work Enviorment Is Bad?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Possibly yes.  With my experience in Ohio, a co-worker had assaulted another co-worker in front of witnesses and the Boss.  The Boss did nothing about it, that the victim quit her job, being in fear of her life and with no protection from the employer to discipline the attacker, since the employer wanted the two of them to remain working together. Two weeks later the violent co-worker attacked me, causing injuries.  My boss did nothing but suspended me without pay, and the attacker remain working while they did their investigation.  During their investigation, I had filed a police report, went to the prosecutor's office, and filed for worker compensation.  At the end of their investigation [one week], I was demoted, two dollar pay reduction, and no more benefits.  Plus they want me to still work with the person who attacked me and the boss did nothing as before. So I quit, filed for unemployment, fought through various appeals, which took for me 8 months and I won my case.  I got a lawyer and about to sue my employer for negligent retention.  It gives you something to think about.  Before you quit.. Speak to a lawyer.
