In the field of marketing these three terms which serve to provide different solutions, can be defined as following;
First Customization,
For example if you are marketing to a particular sector or part of the country, you do your market research in advance, and understand that a large percentage of the people in Essex, for example, would like to drive Porches and live in modern flashy houses. So, armed with this knowledge, you approach that market in a certain way.
Age group segementization can be applied in the same way. You do not try to sell black clam nokia phones to grandparents, which although they are wildly popular, are not sold in that particular segment of the population, so you customise your approach.
Modification involves adjusting the original approach that was taken initially, perhaps because not enough research was done, or the market has shifted or changed in some way and you must adjust your tatics or die.
The third, tailor-made marketing, is rather like tailor-made shirts, made by an expert tailor to fit exactly to the particular curves of the customer's body, exclusively.
In the same way you would tailor-make a particular marketing approach, to exactly fit the behavior and expectations of a very particular part of the market, alone.
