Homology refers to the condition or quality of being homologous. It means a correspondence or relationship that is homologous.
The word "homology" is taken from the Greek word "homologia" meaning agreement.
Homology can be found used in chemistry where it means and refers to either the elements found in periodic group or family or it can refer to the relationship existing in a homogenous series formed from by organic compounds. In mathematics it refers to geometric figures that have an algebraic hierarchy or structure imposed on them by distinct configurations based on topological classifications. It is found also in embryology and genetics. Within this field it refers to similarities found in different organisms which have originated from a common ancestor.
