I think that many who are growing up in the age of the internet have no idea what it means to work for an answer to a problem.  When I had to Know something I had to get out a reference book and read and research and ask questions of teachers and parents.  Now kids just google.  And if wikipedia doesn't have the answer then they are done.

I know what you mean, kids should not be allowed to access the internet for homework, they should be in the books at the library! I will never let my girl use the internet for quick answers, because she is so smart, she needs the hands on approach, and a library to do it in.
In other aspects, such as in my case, it has been great for me to learn that I can have confidence in myself, because I am her on blurtit, and found that people appreciate what I tell them most of the time. I speak out more in defense to rights and people too.

I agree with the other answers, but I do want to say this:  Sometimes I'll see a question on BlurtIt that I don't know the answer to, but it will pique my interest to know what the subject is about, and unless I look it up while here on the computer, it will nag at me until I find out the information.  I have a very curious mind about the world and it's workings, and love finding out about things I've never come across (for instance, today I found out what toads eat, and what are the symptoms of sun poisoning).  The internet has certainly made an unfortunate decrease in the number of children that need to find out how wonderfully informative the library can be, and how much more information on a subject they can find there.  I agree that some of the questions on here give me a "duh!!" reaction when I read them, especially when people ask what to do for a seriously sick animal or child.  Homework questions abound on this site, and I think a lot of them should be disqualified by the site's webmasters.  There are some nights when more than three quarters of the questions are math equations, essay questions, etc.  Bottom line regarding the children finding information ---- the internet has taken away a lot of the challenge of hunting down information.  It's way too easy and you have to wonder what they actually do learn and retain.
