Should I Go Straight Into The Action In My Novels?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It is a good idea to do this. If you start your novel with pages upon pages of descriptions then the reader is likely to get bored and may not even want to continue, especially if they are a young reader.

Perhaps you could start your novel with some action combined with a bit of mystery, so that the reader will want to find out more. Try to introduce your characters in an interesting way rather than simply writing lots of words about what they look like.

There will be areas in your book where there will hardly be any action, but you need to keep the reader's interest. If you decide to write a short story, then you should certainly go straight into the action, as you are more limited, so you need to capture the reader's interest right away.
