What Can You Tell Me About The Namib-Naukluft National Park?

Answer Question

It is a truly huge reserve which includes most of the Namib Desert that lies out with the sperrgebiet, or forbidden diamond territory.

The Namib is the world's oldest desert and harbours life that has had thousands of years to adapt to the hostile environment and thrive despite the challenges.

The national park is made up of four accessible areas, namely the Namib Section, Kuiseb Canyon, the Naukluft, and Sesriem and Sossusvlei.

The Namib Section takes in the Swakop River Valley and its famous 'moonscape'. Kuiseb Canyon, meanwhile, is regarded as the most important natural feature of the Namib Desert and a haven for wildlife.

The Naukluft, or Narrow Cleft, area straddles the escarpment on the fringe of the Namib Desert and is a mountainous region of vividly coloured rock stratas.

Lying to the west of the Naukluft is the Sesriem gorge, the river that flows through it continues on for a further 60km where it enters a massive natural amphitheatre. This feature is formed by the Sossusvlei sand dunes, some of the highest sand dunes in the world.
