Just wondering if it is legal to own a snake that has the potential of growing so large.

According to born free USA, there is no law in Alabama against keeping exotic pets, which probably would include anacondas. However, in some cases licenses or other documents are required, and it does seem as if such a large animal ought to be registered, so you would probably have to tell someone, if only to make sure that you have everything you need.
