    Classification of cooperative society:
There is a vast variety of cooperative society organized in the capitalist countries of the world. The societies have been formed due to the particular behavior of the economy mostly controlled by big businessman and industrialists. The interest of the industrialist and big businessman generally conflict with the laborers working in their factory and the consumers at large. The industrialists because of the greater power and resources at their command are in better bargaining position with the workers and pay them less than their marginal productivity. The consumers too large in number and disorganized are exploited by industrialists and businessman.

The depressed class of the consumers and workers in order to protect their interest set up different kinds of societies to provide retail services according to their local needs. The main kinds of societies which have been organized in different parts of the capitalist world are grouped under the following main heads:
    1- Cooperative credit societies
    2- Producers cooperative societies
    3- Consumer cooperative societies
    4- Insurance cooperative societies
    5- Cooperative housing societies
    6- Cooperative farming societies
    7- Miscellaneous societies
The societies which are operating in Russia, China or in other communist countries cannot be called cooperative societies.
