What Qualifies As Casual Work For Unemployment?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Casual work is a kind of job in which an employee is employed for a period not extending six weeks in any four successive months. The best thing about casual work is that you are not bound by fixed working times or set days. An employee calls up someone who is handling the roster to ask what shifts are there for him or her during the course of a particular week. Taking note of the available shifts on offer, the employee books the time in which he or she is able to work in the week. The flexible style of working suits a lot of people, mostly students and those who are interested in earning income from a second source.

If you are unemployed, you can still get work for casual employment in various sectors like advertising, customer service, telemarketing, delivery, administration, hospitality, retail etc. You can use casual work as an opportunity to learn in your area of interest. For example, you can work in an accountancy firm and get sufficient exposure in handling accounts. You can work in a radio station and get first-hand knowledge on music programming and radio-jockeying. There is a difference between a part-time job and casual work. Part-time job is work for fewer hours than a full-time job and consists of basic entitlements. Besides, you are given fixed hours of work. In casual work, one works for irregular periods of time and there are no entitlements. Instead one is given attractive compensation for hours spent on work.
