San Juan basically is a district of Argentina, situated towards the western region of the country. San Juan shares its borders with La Rioja, San Luis, Mendoza and has the Republic of Chile towards the west.

The dry plains towards the east along with a few short sierras, quickly convert to 6,000 meter-high mountains peaks towards the western region. The majority of the precipitation occurs during summer, generally in the shape of storms.
As of 2001, the total population of this district was said to be 620,023 with an average population density of 6.92 per square kilometre. The total area of this region was said to be 89,651 square kilometres.
