Bad breath is the common name for the medical condition, halitosis. Bad breath or halitosis may be caused by an assortment of reasons including not brushing the teeth properly and certain medical conditions.

One of the important factors that cause bad breath is the food of a person. Such items as onions, garlic, orange juice, soda and cheese cause bad breath. Another important factor that causes bad breath is poor oral hygiene. Teeth need to be carefully brushed and flossed to keep bad breath away. Bad breath or halitosis may also be the result of smoking and the use of tobacco in any other form. Dry mouth resulting from stress or due to some medication will also cause bad breath.

A number of medical problems including periodontal disease can cause bad breath. Uncontrolled diabetes is another cause of bad breath. Other medical conditions including sinus or other bacterial infection, and kidney or liver complaints are also seen to be causing bad breath.

For getting rid of bad breath one need to find what is causing it and take immediate and effective remedial measures.

Make sure you not only brush your teeth thoroughly- but clean you tongue, inside your cheeks, gums and the roof of your mouth, as the majority of bad breath germs dwell there. Also avoid mouth wash with alcohol, the alcohol dries out the mouth and bacteria love a dry mouth. Keep hydrated. I like Orbit gum too.

Try brushing your tongue and see if that works. Are you eating to much garlic that makes for bad breath. Try swishing your mouth with water as if you have dry mouth it is a haven for bacteria that makes bad breath. Allergies also do this I know this as both my husband and son when their allergies get to bad for them their breath starts smelling bad. Do you go to a dentist on a regular basis to get your teeth cleaned as you could also have the beginnnings of gingivitis. Do you smoke Do you floss at least two times a day. Do you clean your toothbrush with alcohol every time you brush as it carries a host of bacteria that can make your breath smell? And if all else fails you can buy over the counter theraBreath or probreath or a toothpaste that contains tea tree oil at a health food store. And last but not least if you have dry mouth chew gum.

Chew parsley. It neutralises bad breath and has lots of vitamin C, so keeps you well too.
