Actually sugar is more of an ingredient itself for other food items. Sugar is a simple form of food. It is actually just sucrose. Sucrose is a disaccharide, components of which are glucose and fructose (so you could call these the ingredients of sugar).
Sucrose has a sweet taste (well, we all know that).
It is found in vegetables and fruits. The table sugar that we consume is usually extracted from sugar cane or beet roots. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate and provides a lot of instant energy. However, its use has also been linked with hyperactivity in children, obesity, heart disease and tooth decay.
Some things in which you commonly use sugar as an ingredient are:
Cakes
Biscuits
Doughnuts
Chocolate bars
Candy
Tea
Coffee
Shakes
The list can go on and on. On an average, a healthy diet should include of no more than 4-6 teaspoons of sugar.
