What Are Some Indicators That Your Horse Is Bored When Left In The Stall?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

It starts to nibble on the wood in the stall.  Its called cribbing.  You need to paint a mixture of chili pepper and water on the wood.  The reason is that when the horse nibbles on the wood, it then sucks in air,  thus causing tiny pieces of wood to get stuck in the lining of its throat.  Thus causing it to start coughing up blood.     So do something about it right away.

The best thing I have found that would stop cribbing is skin so soft by avon, my stud hates the smell.. If your horse is bored, get him a therapy ball.. Or a stable mate.. Ball is cheaper.

Bored, chewing, cribbing, weaving. Are all signs of boredom in a stall. Try giving him more hay, or free choice hay. Or a happy apple. Or a jolly ball. These are all things to keep him busy. You have to remember horses derive from working farms back in the day, so they need something to keep them on a working status...
