Where Is The Indus Valley?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Indus Valley is the valley of the River Indus which stretches from Pakistan to north India. It was home to the ancient civilization that developed between 3300 and 1300BC and then 2600-1900 BC.  The settlements of the so called Indus Valley Civilisation cover an extensive area of over one million km of territory. The cities were usually made out of brick and stone and were exceptionally well organized. Excavations have revealed their drainage systems, systems of weights and measures, jewellery, toys and even trade arrangements.

Another name for the Indus valley civilization is the Saraswati Sindhu divination and the Harappan civilization. The first city to be excavated was Harappa.

A distinctive feature of this ancient civilization is the system of writing prevalent. Symbols found on pieces of earthen pots and seals reveal nearly four hundred different types. Their script however remains undeciphered. The people of this civilization are believed to have worshipped a mother goddess.
