    Jacksonville is in the inner Banks region of the state of North Carolina in the United States of America. It is located in and is the county seat of Onslow County in the state of North Carolina. It is the chief city of North Carolina. It covers a total area of 117 square kilometres. It is included in the Jacksonville, North Carolina Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the 2000 census figures of population, the city of Jacksonville had a total population of 66, 715. The density of population of Jacksonville is 579.1 people per square kilometre. It was founded in the year 1757 and incorporated in the year 1842. About 63.94 per cent of the population of Jacksonville is made up of whites and about 23.96 per cent of the population is made up of African-Americans. It is the home of the US Marine Corps Lejeune and the New River Air Station. Jacksonville is the place where the singer Ryan Adams was born.
