Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Apprentice Pillar is an ornately carved pillar within Rosslyn chapel, situated on the outskirts of Edinburgh. According to legend, the master stonemason who had been charged with the task of carving the pillar pondered long and hard about the design. In the end, he decided to travel to Rome in search of inspiration but when he returned he found that his apprentice had carved the pillar instead. It is said that the apprentice had received inspiration in a dream, showing him how the pillar should look. When the master mason saw what had happened, he was so angry that he killed his apprentice, and was then charged with the crime of murder and executed.

Over the years many strange theories have been advanced about the Apprentice Pillar.
Some people believe that there are objects contained within it. One book, The Hiram Key, even claimed that the mummified head of Christ was contained inside.
