My Friend Told Me That If You See Orange Streaks In The Sky During Sunset Or Sunrise, It Means There Is A Lot Of Pollution In The Area. Is This True?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

More or less its true...The colour difference is all about  due to SCATTERING of Light rays by the particles in the atmosphere... It may not only due to pollutant particles... What ever in the atmosphere...Clearly, Sunlight (white light), consists of seven colours... You can see the orange colour at morning or evening only... (i.e) Only when sun is as much as far from you... Due to longer distance all the short wave length colours are (violet, indigo, brown, green, yellow) are scattered away due to particles in the atmosphere... And the longest and strongest wavelength colour lights (orange and Red) are only able to reach you.... Thats why in all signals and in ambulance the RED colour is used.. (longer wavelength, reach your eyes at longer distance too).... Is that okay:)
