      I'm assuming you are talking about the Baseball team. They were an original member of the upstart American League, and began playing in Philadelphia. They moved to Kansas City in the mid 1950's, then to Oakland in either '68 or '69. Here's an interesting bit of trivia: The reason they have an elephant as their mascot is because their original owner, Connie Mack, tried to sell his players when he couldn't afford to pay them, so the rest of the league figured he was having a "white elephant sale"
