Who Invented The Wombles?

    The Wombles are imaginary characters that emerge in a series of kid's novel. These characters were formed by British author, Elisabeth Beresford. Elisabeth Beresford is also known as, Lisa. She was born in the year 1928 in Paris. She began her career as journalist and then went to writing film and television coloumns as well as, writing for BBC as a  radio reporter.

    She wrote over 20 Womble books, which were translated in more than 40 languages, in a span of 10 years. She performed a stage show of The Wombles at the West End. Her Womble series was so famous, due to which a huge range of womble products entered the market. Till today, she continues to write her children novels. Most of her novels today are based on this island called, Alderny, in the English Channel. In 1998, she was awarded an MBE.
