    Vilnius is the city as well as the capital of Lithuania. The city was founded in the time of 10th century. In the year of 1323 it became the capital of the country Lithuania. Vilnius was ruined in the year of 1377 by the Teutonic knights. The city was rebuilt after while. In the year of 1795 it was passed to Russia. The city was renowned as a European centre for Jewish learning for several centuries. During the times of First World War and the Second World War the city was captured by the Germans and in that time it suffered heavy damages.

    Vilnius became a part of Poland in the year of 1920. The soviet troops took the charge again in the year of 1939. Vilnius was again restored to Lithuania that the soviet was invaded in the year of 1940.  During the Second World War the German activity was the result of the decimation of the territory's Jewish population. It was dropped from 80,000 in 1941 to 6,000 in the year of 1945. In the year of 1991, the country of Lithuania became independent and Vilnius became its capital.

    Vilnius is an important industrial point. Many historical buildings of the city are representing the Gothic, Renaissance as well as Baroque styles of architecture. According to the census report of the year of 2002, the population was estimated around 542,287.
