What's The Story Behind Six Flags?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Six Flags has more active amusement parks than any other amusement/theme park chain in the world. The chain's founder, Angus G. Wynne, designed the first park with an Indian village, a railroad, country shows, and other small amusement sections. Over time, the park incorporated roller coasters, concerts, water rides, and other attractions to replace the more primitive wild-west type attractions.

The original park, Six Flags Over Texas, gets it name from the six flags that have flown over Texas. Six countries have controlled the state since its founding. Spain controlled it first, then the French, followed by Mexico who lost it in the Texas Revolution. After the revolution, Texas became its own country, the Republic of Texas. Then it became a state of the United States in 1845. In 1865, Texas seceded from the Union and joined the Confederacy.

That's six flags/countries: Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, USA, and the CSA.
