What Does Kebab Mean?

    The term kebab comes from the Persian term Kabab which means "grilled meat". Kebabs generally comprise of lamb and beef, although certain types of kebabs are made from chicken or fish even.

    It is said that the term kebab was obtained from two Persians words, Kam and Aab, meaning cooked with very less or no water at all. There a number of kebab's and the expression have diverse meanings in different countries. It is said that the initial recipe of kebab came from the tenth century recipe book Kitab al-Tabeekh written by Ibn Sayyar al-Warraq.

    His method of Kebab included slices of lean meat, which would be salted and grilled in an un-greased pan. Other types of well known kebabs are Doner kebab and Shish kebab.
