Mother's Day is renowned and is celebrated in many countries like Denmark, United States, Italy, Finland, Australia, Turkey, Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, Belgium, Pakistan etc. On this day children of all ages honor their mother for all that they do in raising them.
Some says that Mother's Day begins from very old spring Greek carnivals devoted to Rhea, motherly goddesses or from spring festival devoted to Cybele, also a mother goddess, in Ancient Romans.

In 16th century there comes another concept of Mother's Day originated in England which was celebrated on the fourth Sunday of Lent and was known as Mothering Sunday. Gifts were offered to mothers and cakes were also served.

In 1872 Julia Ward Howe suggested Mother's Day in United States for the first time.
In 1907 Anna Jarvis held a ceremony to honor her mother, who had passed away two years earlier. Jarvis' mother also wanted to establish Mother's Friendship Days but all in vain. So Anna Jarvis carried on with her mother's campaign. Because of her efforts, in 1910, West Virginia was the first state to celebrate the new holiday and in 1914 President Wilson announced the second Sunday in May to be Mother's Day.
