    When used in the context of grass, the word tare is defined as any of the several weedy vetches which are grown for forage. It is also known as a darnel. It means a variety of weedy grass which grows annually. It often occurs in grain fields and other cultivated lands. The seeds of darnel or tare are sometimes considered poisonous.

    Vicia is a large genus of flowering plants. The genus Vicia consists of about 140 species of flowering plants which belong to the family Fabaceae. These plants are native to the continents of Europe, Asia and Africa.

    One of the species, which is known as Vicia faba, is commonly known as the broad bean or the fava bean. It is cultivated for human consumption. A number of other species are cultivated as forage for livestock and are also used on farms as green manure. Other species which belong to the genus Vicia are wild flowers.

      Tare grass is used to describe any of several weedy vetches grown of the genus Vicia. Tare grasses are found very commonly and often don't look like grasses - more like climbing herbs. The common name of the tare grass is vetch.
