Tramadol is DEFINATELY AN OPIATE DERRIVATIVE...check the drug information under the brand name ULTRAM..wether a drug screen will be sensitive enough. Or a qualitative analysis is performed is the question... Possible aids in eliminating it from the system quicker-any type of barbiturate or phenytoin will increase liver enzymes-thus inc metabolis. Problem lies wether barbiturates are tested for..confused yet?

Tramadol is a opioid derivative and is used as narcotic analgesic. It is also used as street drug abuse and is tested for drug dependency. In blood it can be tested for 12-14 hours. I urine 2-4 days and in hair follicles test up to 90 days.

Tramadol does not show up in a urine drug test. That is a false answer and whoever wrote that does not know what they are talking about. Tramadol is NOT a opioid therefore CANNOT show up as one. It is NOT a narcotic either. It is a non narcotic drug. It is not a scheduled drug. In any panel drug urine test Tramadol does not show up. I have been taking it for sometime now and I get urine test on a regular basis for work. There is no urine test for tramadol since it is not a narcotic.

Actually, you are very wrong. There are certain tests done by companies that test for specific drugs in additional to the usual 9-panel drug test. Most companies call this a Health Professions Panel, as they are specifically testing for drugs that health care professionals have easy access to. Go to questdiagnostics.com and look at their Health Prof Panel Drug test. It lists tramadol as one of the drugs tested for at a detection level of 200ng/ml. You should check your facts before answering.

Those of you that think that tramadol does not show up on a drug test, it depends on what kind of drug test that is being used on you. I go to pain management and it most definitely showed up in my urine. I was scripted it months ago, but did not take it very often. On my first visit to my PM doc I was tested and I was honest and told them the medications I had taken. I told them I had a script for tramadol, but I hadn't taken it in a while because it makes me sick. I don't remember taking this medication before my visit to my PM doc or I would of told them that I had taken it. I went back for my second visit and was told that I was positive for tramadol and that I had a lot of it in my system. I do not know how it showed up positive because it had been a while since I took it. Unless I have kidney problems and don't know anything about it. So depending on the test given, which obviously mine in the end was the  gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).test that shows levels, and the only reason they would go there is if I showed up positive for something that didn't belong, even traces. It will show what drug and the amount of it in the system. Don't be fooled by people that have had negative results, because it all depends on the drug test being given.

For one if you didn't take the drug it will not show up in your system. Justmejoan is right, ANY panel test doesn't pick up a non narcotic. A normal 5 panel drug screen consist of THC (marijuana), Cocaine (Crack), Methamphetamine (Ecstasy), Amphetamine, Opiates (Morphine). That is all any regular Doctor, work place, or probation place screens for. Maybe someone here should listen the person who currently studies the medical field, instead of a person who just simply takes the drug.

Tramadol is an opiate DERIVATIVE, not an opiate in the technical sense, and is also not a Schedule III narcotic.  Therefore, It is NOT tested for on the standard  five dip-stick test, where chemically-coated dipsticks are lowered into a urine sample.  What is tested for is Opiates, Amphetamines, Alcohol, Marijuana (THC), and Amphetamines. HOWEVER, there ARE more technical tests that CAN identify the active ingredient of Tramadol in urine, but this is NOT routinely performed on individuals, except in specific circumstance.  Some individuals who have previously been identified opiate abusers MAY be tested for Tramadol, but others are typically not tested.

The active ingredient of Tramadol will show up in the more-technical test after approximately 12 hours, and can stay in the urine for 3-5 days, unless the individual has issues with their liver or kidneys, which will result in longer break-down times.

It will show up if the test screens for tramadol, otherwise they'll be fine, ive had lots of tests and the best thing is drink plenty water, or try synthetic urine! Thats saved me a couple of times.
