    Vancouver is a famous city of South western British Columbia. British Columbia is a prosperous area of Canada. The city is situated on a natural harbour. According to the census report of the year of 2001, the population was estimated 1,986,965. The city was named with its discoverer George Vancouver.

    The city named Vancouver was originated as a lumber-processing settlement. It was settled in the year of 1870. In the year of 1886 the territory was attacked by a catastrophic fire. But the area was survived and became the main sea-port of Canada in that time.

    After the completion of the famous transcontinental rail road in the year of 1887, the territory of Vancouver was started to develop. Its development came to the first page after the opening of Panama Canal. Panama Canal was opened in the year of 1914. Both of them are very much important to its economy to export grain and lumber to the North American east coast as well as the European countries. In spite of lumber and plywood; oil refining, fishing and shipbuilding are also very important for Vancouver's economy.
