They should go in. If there's any possibility the snake was poisonous then you can call beforehand to get emergency procedure to do on your way in for anti-venon. If it's at all possible to identify or get a good description of the snake it's a very good thing.

Stop by the store and pick up a gallon of whole milk. Let your dog drink as much as he can, the whole gallon if they want. The next day the majority of the swelling should be gone. Sounds bazaar I know, and at first, as a city girl, I didn't believe it. My husbands family is from a rural desert area and have used this method for generations. My husband (an AZ native) and I moved to the AZ desert area 3 yrs ago where I got to see this first hand. We have had 3 dogs bitten by rattle snakes. Our momma dog (a medium sized American Pitt-bull) has killed several snakes and she has been bitten at least 3 or 4 different times. The last time was at the beginning of this summer when she cornered a rattler on our porch. The snake had no where to go. And as my mother-in-law and I watched from the living room window, we saw this snake strike at least 7 times. She was finally able to grab the snake and killed it. Her face was swollen 10x's it's normal size and she staggered as she walked away from the kill. I thought for sure she was done this time due to the fact she was struck so many times. She wouldn't drink any milk at the beginning. At this point she seamed feverish and all she wanted to do is sit in a big water trough for a while and then go lay in a big hole dug in the yard trying to cool herself down. It wasn't until towards the evening that she finally started drinking the gallon milk we had set out for her. The next day the swelling was almost gone and by the 3rd day you could not tell she had ever been bitten by a rattle snake! Amazing!
