Pyramids date back several thousands of years, way before B.C. And it is believed that they were tombs for the pharoas, as many of their caskets and belonging were found in them.  It is also believed that not only where the kings burried, but all their slaves, wives, possessions etc. As they believed they could take them into the after life.  Some chambers were booby trapped so that no soldier or living thing could escape upon the final burial rights.  For approx.
