It depends on the state or country you are in. It could vary from I think 7 to 11 years. Typically, I think it is 7 years. Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

Bankruptcy shows on your credit for 10 years in the state of Florida.I believe this is the case for most states. Bad credit will stay on your credit report for 7 years. You can start to rebuild your credit in just a few months by applying for credit cards. They will have a higher interest rate because of your bankruptcy so be sure to only use them a little each month and pay it off when the bill comes in. You can do this by paying for items that you would normally pay cash for and putting that money in the bank so that when your bill comes in, you will have the cash there to pay it immediately. Most credit cards give a grace period if you pay the balance off at the due date so you won't have to pay the high interest.. After "Two" years you will begin to get better offers. When you do, then transfer to the fixed rate and lower interest cards. I filed bankruptcy in 2003 and was still able to refinance my house in March of "06.
