What Were First-generation Computers Powered By?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

It depends on what you consider the "first gen" computers, many people consider charles Babbage's difference engine to be the first and i believe that was steam powered, however i dont consider it to be a computer, in my opinion the computer was in its first generation with the advent of the microprocessor.

The very first microprocessor was developed specifically for a us fighter jet, the f-14a tom cat, it was completed in 1970 but was never used in any other devices, following that came the intel 4004, a 4bit 740khz cpu that launched commercially in 1971
