The Chevrolet Corvette Roadster was introduced by the General Motors Company in 1953. The car was a first of its kind being the first ever all American Sports Car. It was a result of the General Motors Company having employed designer Henry Earl to design their vehicles. At that point of time there was a rivalry in play between the Ford Motor Company and Chevrolet. The Ford Motor Company introduced the Thunderbird as a rival to the Roadster. This vehicle was however not termed a sports car, instead it was known as a personal luxury car. Both cars have become icons in their own right and have been reintroduced in various variations. Even though the Corvette was very popular it was trashed by critics in Europe for being no match to models of cars available there.
